Given the free use of Park Lane House, 45 Park Lane, London W1, the PLG was
founded in 1956
• To provide a prominent platform for outstanding young musicians
• To organise notable and imaginative musical occasions
• To celebrate the lives and work of great musicians
The policy has continued for 50 seasons with rigorous auditions each Spring. Some 1,500
young artists have been presented in the New Year Series and other Park Lane Group
series with excellent results. A tiny random choice includes:
Thomas Adès Sir Thomas Allen Richard Hosford Alison Balsom John Ogdon
Dame Josephine Barstow Claire Booth Mark van de Wiel Doric String Quartet
Imogen Cooper Susan Tomes Belcea String Quartet Elizabeth Layton Tim Hugh
Jane Manning Lyn Fletcher Andrew Ball Stephanie Gonley Barry Wordsworth

The success of these and many other fine artists, a large number of whom hold principal
positions in many leading orchestras and ensembles in the UK and abroad, plus the PLG's adventurous and imaginative programming, and perceptive reviewing from the national and
musical press, has established the PLG as a leading platform for young performers of
outstanding talent.
The PLG is constantly in need of support as funding has to be found for each and every one of its events.
Support in all forms is warmly welcomed and resources have often been found from enlightened individuals in large and small amounts. With its charitable status, the PLG also welcomes funding from trusts, foundations, companies and corporations.
Help is gratefully acknowledged from the Bernarr Rainbow Trust, Berners Trust, Britten-Pears Foundation, John S Cohen Foundation, Delius Trust, Hinrichsen Foundation, Ludgate Trust of the Musicians Benevolent Fund, PRS Foundation, RVW Trust Fund, Tim Brandt Trust, other trust funds, individuals and The PLG Friends. Programme advertisers also make significant contributions.
PLG Young Artists have frequently taken part in the PLG Anniversary Series, which began in 1962: a 75th birthday concert for Dame Edith Sitwell in the sold-out Royal Festival Hall with Sir William Walton, Sir Peter Pears and Stephen Kovacevich (replacing Lord Britten).
