Also as an early tribute to Messiaen in his centenary year and including late piano music by his great predecessor, Claude Debussy, and by his most outstanding pupil, Pierre Boulez.  Boulez had a very close connection with Paul Sacher, to whom he dedicated

some of his most important works, and the composer’s manuscripts are now housed in the Paul Sacher Foundation, Basel.

With the permission of Pierre Boulez and the Foundation, this concert provides a rare opportunity to hear the Third Sonata (still a work in progress) in a provisional three-movement form.  The performance of the first movement Antiphonie will be from hand copies of the source material in the Foundation and the second movement Constellation will be played in its original unpublished version.

The concert is presented in association with the Embassy of Switzerland.
