Also as an early tribute to Messiaen in his centenary year and including late piano music by his great predecessor, Claude Debussy, and by his most outstanding pupil, Pierre Boulez. Boulez had a very close connection with Paul Sacher, to whom he dedicated
some of his most important works, and the composer’s manuscripts are now housed in the Paul Sacher Foundation, Basel.
With the permission of Pierre Boulez and the Foundation, this concert provides a
rare opportunity to hear the Third Sonata (still a work in progress) in a provisional
